Boston Opera Collaborative foresees Visions of Youth
2006-2007 season to feature Bel Canto scenes, Hansel and Gretel, La Bohème, and Dialogues of the Carmelites
Boston, MA—In the wake of its highly successful inaugural production of C.W. Gluck's Iphigénie en Aulide, Boston Opera Collaborative (BOC) unveils an exciting and ambitious program for its 2006-2007 season, "Visions of Youth."
Since creating the group in January of 2006, BOC's emerging artists have made great strides in their efforts to advance New England's newest opera company. It is therefore fitting that all of the offerings for the coming season feature young characters striving to carve their niche in society. Add to the mixture a profusion of high notes, and you have a compelling combination of comedy and drama that illustrates the panoramic "Visions of Youth" that BOC has for the coming year.
The journey begins with a November program that chronicles the development of Italian opera. Highlighting florid vocal acrobatics and scandalous love triangles, the performance will offer an in-depth look at the evolution of Bel Canto singing from Mozart to Verdi. This Bel Canto scenes program will take place on November 2 and 4 at the Church of the Covenant, located at 67 Newbury Street in Boston.
BOC will then defeat an evil witch in its February children's opera, Engelbert Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel. In April, the company teams up with Riverside Theatre Works in Hyde Park, MA for a concert version of La Bohème, Giacomo Puccini's beloved tale of young love and tragic death. The excitement comes to a close with a summer 2007 production of Francis Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmelites. This monumental historical and musical achievement tells the story of young nuns who struggle to maintain their virtue amidst the turbulence of the French Revolution.
Exact dates and venues for the entire season will be announced in the coming months. For more information, please visit our website.
