Vanessa Julia Isiguen, soprano

Born in Los Angeles and raised in Charlotte North Carolina, Cuban/Filipino Soprano Vanessa Julia Isiguen now resides in Boston. Ms. Isiguen has been a proud member of Boston Opera Collaborative since 2007, performing roles such as Pamina in Mozart's The Magic Flute and Lauretta in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi.

Ms. Isiguen has won various competitions including 1st Place at the National Association for Teachers of Singing (NATS) Competition in both Boston and North Carolina and was also the winner of the vocal division and top finalist for The Boston Conservatory Concerto Competition singing selections from Andre Previn's "Honey and Rue". Ms. Isiguen was a selected participant for the George London Foundation Competition in NYC and was also selected as a semi-finalist in the Peter Elvins Vocal Competition in Belmont, MA. Most recently, Ms. Isiguen won the North Carolina District Award of the 2010 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions advancing to the regional level and representing her homestate at the Southeast Regional Finals.

While participating in summer programs abroad singing in Italy and Austria Ms. Isiguen was selected as a featured soloist with the American Institute of Musical Studies Orchestra performing in Graz, Austria and neighboring cities. Ms. Isiguen was also selected to perform a new work composed by Andy Vores, Composition Chair at The Boston Conservatory Gala Evening, Spring 2007 and later that same year sang the soprano lead in the U.S. premiere of Handel’s Silla with San Francisco B.A.S.O.T.I.

Ms. Isiguen has enjoyed the privilege of performing in master classes with many successful artists such as Dawn Upshaw, Patricia Craig, John Moriarty, Lisa Saffer, and Darren Woods; she was also accepted into a prestigious master class series at The Boston Conservatory working closely with famed baritone, Sanford Sylvan.

Ms. Isiguen earned her B.M. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her M.M. from The Boston Conservatory. Ms. Isiguen is an avid performer in the New England area and studies with the internationally acclaimed Metropolitan Opera soprano Maria Spacagna.
