Nicholas Hebert is a young tenor hailing from Albany, NY. He is thrilled to be one of BOC’s newest members and is currently performing in their enchanting yet provocative production of Stephen Sondheim’s, “A Little Night Music” as Mr. Erlanson.
A recent graduate of Vassar College in May 2009, Nicholas received his B.A. in Biology while studying voice with mezzo-soprano Mary Nessinger and performing under the direction of renowned countertenor, Drew Minter, in yearly workshops and performances of opera scenes. Roles include the Count in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Narciso in Il turco in Italia, First Sailor in Dido and Aeneas, Romeo in Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette and Snout, The Wall, in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He reprised his performance of the Count at the Vassar College Department of Music “Music from Vassar” concert at Jazz at Lincoln Center in NYC. Nicholas has also had the honor of performing Lensky’s Aria, “Kuda, kuda...” from Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin with the Vassar College Orchestra as a winner of their annual solo competition.
Nicholas has also ventured into the world of musical theater, performing in a duet cabaret along-side soprano, Janet Satsio with Riverview Productions in Albany, NY. The production was full of solos and duets, with one reviewer noting, “you will soon be able to boast, ‘I knew him when’,” as, “he is destined for a remarkable career.”
In addition to performing, Nicholas is extremely passionate about education and working with and mentoring urban youth. He has had the opportunity to be the musical director for a summer theater camp/workshop for inner city students called S.T.A.R. through the Capital Repertory Theater, Albany, NY. Nicholas is currently an academic mentor for the college preparatory program, College Bound, at the Lynch School of Education at Boston College.
He has performed in master classes with notable Broadway singer/actress Kelli O’Hara, and composer Ricky Ian Gordon. Nicholas currently studies with James Demler.
