Originally from Toronto, David is currently a Boston-based director, actor, and teacher. Selected directing credits: A Little Night Music (Boston Opera Collaborative), The Good Person of Szechwan, Lord of the Flies, What the Butler Saw, Bug, Yank (a musical based on O’Neill’s “The Hairy Ape”), A Man of No Importance, Waiting for Godot, Tartuffe, Twelfth Night, The Maids, and the musical City of Angels. This spring, David will be the Book Director for Boston University’s production of the Sondheim musical Merrily We Roll Along. David directed A Hand of Bridge for the BU Opera Institute and was the Assistant Director on their production of Dominic Argento’s Postcard from Morocco. In addition to directing various scenes for the Opera Institute, David was a member of the OI faculty where he served as acting coach for graduate and undergraduate vocal majors. From 2000-2003, David was the Artistic Director of Shifting Point Theatre, a Vancouver-based theatre company that produced classical, contemporary, and original works for the stage. From 1998-1999, he served as the Assistant to the Artistic Director of Tapestry New Opera Works, one of the only opera companies in North America devoted solely to the creation and production of new opera. As an actor, he was most recently seen in the Boston Center for American Performance productions of David Rabe’s A Question of Mercy (Thomas) and playing 40 different characters in the one-man show I Am My Own Wife. Selected Acting credits include: The Tempest, The Birthday Party, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, The Day Room, Taming of the Shrew, Three in the Back/Two in the Head, and the musical Assassins. David received his BFA in Theatre from Simon Fraser University (Vancouver, BC), and his MFA in Directing from Boston University, where he is currently on faculty. He is also an Associate Artist with the Boston Center for American Performance, the professional extension of BU’s School of Theatre. In addition to his work as a director, actor, and teacher, David holds a Graduate Certificate in Arts Administration from Boston University’s Metropolitan College.
